Some sources have claimed that Hel was located within the realm of Niflhel or Niflheim (“the place of mists”). However, this appears to be a later addition to the mythos. Norse Cosmology contains ‘nine homeworlds’ (Níu Heimar in Old Norse) in which all beings inhabit. These worlds are centered on the World Tree, Yggdrasil, which lies at the centre of the cosmos.
